Vikings and Goddesses uses compostable packaging for baked products.

Vikings & Goddesses wholesale bakery in Minnesota, USA, has moved to compostable packaging from Elk Packaging, which includes Futamura’s NatureFlex high barrier cellulose film layer.

The film is laminated to a biofilm to create a hermetic seal, and the finished structure is independently certified biodegradable by BPI, indicating that it will degrade in a commercial compost setting.

Over the past year, 80% of the bakery’s waste has been diverted from landfills and recycled or commercially composted

.Vikings and Goddesses stated that the new packaging meets all technical standards, including pack integrity, and would remain intact in end consumers’ home freezers. Furthermore, the gusset pouch generated occupies less space on grocery store shelves than a cardboard box or the bakery’s previous packaging options

.Rachel Anderson, the owner of Vikings and Goddesses, stated, “I am delighted to have discovered a compostable answer to our packaging dilemma with our converter partner Elk Packaging. Not only is the new solution compostable, but it also works without the requirement for a sticker or liner, which would have to be removed before throwing it in the compost bin.
