Manoah, a Blue Jays starter, was placed on the disabled list.

Alek Manoah, a Toronto Blue Jays starter, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a right elbow strain and will be evaluated in person next week by orthopedic surgeon Dr.

The 26-year-old right-hander, who had missed the first five weeks of the season due to right shoulder inflammation, was pulled in the second inning of Wednesday’s 3-1 victory against Chicago after suffering discomfort in his throwing arm.

Alek’s MRI revealed a right ulnar collateral ligament sprain.

“That’s all we know right now,” Toronto manager John Schneider said ahead of the Blue Jays’ night game against Pittsburgh.

Manoah went 1-2 with a 3.70 ERA in five starts.

The transfer to the IL was retroactive to Thursday.

Schneider stated that Manoah was treated following his May 24 start against Detroit and “looked and felt good” after throwing a side session in Chicago.

However, his velocity decreased in the second inning against the White Sox, and he was removed after two outs.
