Sixers are prepared to give Jimmy Butler a max extension if one is available. Report

The Philadelphia 76ers-Jimmy Butler reunion this offseason may be more than just smoke.

According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, if both of their plans fail and he becomes available for acquisition, the Sixers will offer him a maximum extension.

“The Sixers view (Butler) as a fallback option if they are unable to sign Paul George in free agency,” Pompey stated.

“And, according to sources, the Sixers are prepared to give Butler a maximum-salary extension if things align and he forces a trade out of Miami.

” Butler was with the Sixers for the bulk of the 2018–19 season.

The Sixers were eliminated from the Eastern Conference Semifinals in seven games by the Toronto Raptors while Butler was on the team.

However, the Sixers came near to defeating the eventual winners. Butler did not stay with the Sixers for long, joining the Heat the following offseason.

Butler and the Heat have since advanced to the NBA Finals twice.

The Sixers have since failed to go beyond the second round.

Acquiring Butler if their other plans fail carries a risk because he is 35 years old. However, his résumé speaks for itself.

His experience beating the Boston Celtics twice while with the Heat is likely to increase his allure to the Sixers.

According to reports, Jimmy Butler is likely to remain with the Heat. The Sixers certainly have Butler on their mind, but it may not matter.

Yahoo sports! According to Jake Fischer, despite the Sixers’ interest, Butler is likely to stay in South Beach.

“Of course, the Sixers have previously dealt with Butler.

He and Embiid had a tight relationship, and Butler may have been the All-Star Morey most regularly tried to sign in Houston, according to insiders.

At this point, however, league executives believe Butler will remain with the Heat,” Fischer said in a May 23 piece.

Another point to consider is that the Sixers are expected to try to sign Paul George first.

It’s easy to understand why. They can sign George in free agency, but they will most likely have to trade for Butler.

Butler is unlikely to be an option if their pursuit of George is successful.

Jimmy Butler Calls Miami ‘Home’ Despite the allegations, Butler told GQ magazine’s Rohan Nadkami that Miami feels like home to him.

“I feel at home, man. I care deeply about the city and its inhabitants. Miami has embraced me.

They’ve asked me to deliver them something they haven’t had since LeBron, (Dwyane Wade), and (Chris Bosh).

And I want to do it.

So as soon as I get this knee back to normal, I’ll be right back on their asses, and everyone knows it.”

Butler damaged his knee during the Heat’s play-in game against the Sixers.

Butler’s absence contributed to the Heat’s first-round loss to the Celtics, despite the fact that they made the playoffs.

He’s been successful with the Heat, but the Sixers might offer him more.
