The class of rookies this offseason is led by six quarterbacks chosen in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, which includes Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams, the last two Heisman Trophy winners. Ten of the previous twenty NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors have gone to quarterbacks. But who will start 2024 as the early favorite?

After being chosen by the Patriots with the third overall choice in the 2024 NFL Draft, Drake Maye is not a lock to start for New England this coming season. The former star quarterback from North Carolina is under a lot of pressure, just like every other quarterback in New England since Tom Brady departed the team in 2020. If Maye sees a big role as a rookie, his ceiling may be lowered since the Patriots lack veteran receiver talent. Rather than immediately put Maye on the field, New England might choose to take things gently and concentrate on his further development. Maye was a five-star talent in the recruiting class of 2021.
