Multi-Grammy-winning musician Jason Newsted is parting with several pieces of his personal guitar and bass collection for the very first time, right here on Reverb.

Set to open its doors on July 24, the Official Jason Newsted Reverb Shop will be filled with over 60 items from throughout the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s illustrious career. Though Newsted is known as an accomplished metal bassist, what may surprise you is his vintage-laden instrument collection.

As he mentions in the video above, he’s spent the last four decades traveling the world and playing with a variety of excellent bands. Along the way, he’s also collected a significant cache of fine, rare, and beautiful pieces. Now, for the first time, Newsted is giving fans a chance to own a piece of his legendary collection.

Though metal players are known for using modern, high-performance instruments, you’re much more likely to find an exceptional vintage specimen from Gibson, Fender, or Rickenbacker in Jason Newsted’s shop. Several 1960s Gibson models will be on offer, like a late 1960s Barney Kessel Custom for the hollowbody fans and a ’66 Firebird for the solidbody fans. He’s also parting with an original Ampeg AUB-1 Scroll Bass in stunning condition and a custom three-string Music Man bass inspired by Tony Levin’s design.

What’s even more special is that the majority of Newsted’s selections here have been used in the studio and on stages across the world. He’s parting with a one-of-one 10-string Alembic Europa bass, for example, that was taken on the road for the tour supporting the Metallica album, along with a rare cherry sunburst-finished PRS bass that was used during th

Fans can also grab a piece of recording history in the 5-string fretless Zon bass Newsted is offering, which was used to record “Until It Sleeps” and still features the settings marking tape from the studio sessions.

One of Newsted’s first Alembic basses, a 1989 20th anniversary model with the serial number six of just 200. Eagle-eyed fans might be able to spot this bass in some videos from the early ’90s, in the production of A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica documentary.
