Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced Friday that the team has signed defensemen Michael Callahan and Alec Regula each to one-year, two-way contracts with a salary cap hit of $775,000.

The 24-year-old Callahan played 70 games with the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League during the 2023-24 season, recording four goals and 13 assists. The 6-foot-2, 196-pound defenseman has played 140 career AHL games, all with Providence, totaling six goals and 21 assists. Callahan spent four seasons at Providence College, contributing 13 goals and 53 assists through 138 games. The Franklin, Massachusetts native was selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Draft and was acquired by Boston in a trade for a seventh-round draft pick on February 22, 2022.

The 23-year-old Regula appeared in 55 games with the Providence Bruins during the 2023-24 season, recording four goals and 22 assists with a plus-36 rating. The 6-foot-4, 218-pound defenseman has skated in 163 career AHL games with Providence and the Rockford IceHogs, totaling 16 goals and 61 assists with a plus-42 rating. Regula has also played in 22 career NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks, contributing one goal. The West Bloomfield, Michigan native was originally drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the third round (67th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft and was acquired by Boston with defenseman Ian Mitchell in a trade for forwards Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno on June 26, 2003.
