The restricted free agency goaltender Jeremy Swayman received an offer from the Bruins, as disclosed by Spittin’ Chiclets co-host and former NHL player Ryan Whitney.

In two weeks, the National Hockey League’s training camps will commence, and several well-known players will remain unsigned as restricted free agents. Jeremy Swayman of the Boston Bruins, who will now start for the team full-time following Linus Ullmark’s trade to the Ottawa Senators back in June, is one of the players still without a contract.

In late August, a report came out saying that Jeremy Swayman was seeking $10 million per season on his new contract. A contract with an AAV of $10 million per year would give Swayman the second-highest cap hit in the NHL, tying him with Sergei Bobrovsky of the Florida Panthers.

On a recent episode of the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast, Ryan Whitney says he received information from a source that says the Boston Bruins’ current offer to Jeremy Swayman is four years, with a cap hit of $6.2 million per season.

Whitney went on to add that the Bruins have reportedly not contacted or returned any calls from Jeremy Swayman within the last three weeks.

“Current Swayman offer from the Bruins. 4 years x $6.2 million (per year).” Whitney said.

He went on to add, “And apparently, the Bruins have not contacted or returned Swayman’s calls in three weeks.

“Now, I’m running with a source here. You can say I’m ridiculous. You could say I’m making things up. I am not. I am running with the source. And if their offer is four years x $6.2 million, after you traded your other stud goalie, that’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard. That’s insane. That’s crazy. That is not even close.”

The 25-year-old Alaska native had a solid 2023-24 campaign and took over the starting reins from Linus Ullmark during their first round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 44 games, Swayman had a record of 25-10-8 with a 2.53 goals against average, a .916 save percentage and three shutouts.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop on this front in the next two weeks as both sides would like to have a deal done before the Boston Bruins open training camp. There will have to be a bit of compromise between both parties to get a deal done here shortly. It seems unlikely that Swayman will get $10 million per year from the Bruins, but he’s worth more than the reported offer of $6.2 million AAV.
