The Edmonton Elks will be without a single body at one of football’s most unheralded positions on Sunday.
Both of Edmonton’s fullbacks, Tanner Green (ankle) and Jacob Plamondon (elbow), went down in their Week 9 win over Saskatchewan and have since been added to the six-game injured list. The team was left without a replacement and will be unable to dress one this week.
The Elks will add a seventh offensive lineman to the mix in Hunter Steward in order to help fill the blocking role on offence, while rookie receiver Zach Mathis will make his CFL debut after being acquired in exchange for a 2025 first-round pick in the supplemental draft. Global linebacker Les Maruo will step in to plug a gap on special team with Canadian Josiah Schakel (groin) also going on the six-game.
Defensively, edge rusher Romeo McKnight (ankle) will sit out this week, having recorded seven tackles and two sacks in six games. Noah Taylor will get the start at defensive end, while defensive tackle DeMarcus Christmas will make his debut as an Elk in a rotational role.
The Edmonton Elks (1-7) will host the B.C. Lions (5-3) on Sunday, August 11 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
