Nottingham Forest maintained their Champions League charge with a big 1-0 win over Manchester United on Tuesday night.
On the back of Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final victory over Brighton and Hove Albion, the Reds strengthened their grip on third spot in the Premier League courtesy of Anthony Elanga’s goal. The winger scored against his former club to clinch an important three points for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side at the City Ground.
However, the result was not without cost as the hosts lost Ola Aina to injury. They were already without the sidelined Chris Wood and Callum Hudson-Odoi due to a personal matter.
The latter is likely to be available again for Saturday’s trip to face Aston Villa (5.30pm kick-off) but there is a question mark over his teammates. Below, NottinghamshireLive looks at Forest’s injury state of play.
Injury: Hip.
What we know:The front man was substituted in the 54th minute of New Zealand’s World Cup qualifier against New Caledonia in Auckland last week. He had apparently hurt himself swivelling for a shot and required treatment before hobbling off.
Wood underwent a scan before departing for the UK and had another one upon his return. He has not been involved in the Reds’ past two games, against Brighton and United.
What has been said: “It is going to be day by day,” Nuno said of the 33-year-old after Tuesday’s match. “He is getting better. Today, the feedback was that he is getting better. Tomorrow, I hope for even better but he is going to be assessed day by day.”
In his pre-match press conference on Monday, Nuno had said: “We have to assess him day by day. It is all about him being pain free and then getting back to fitness.”
Injury: Suspected calf.
What we know: Without being under any kind of challenge, the full-back went down late in the first half on Tuesday night. He required treatment on the pitch and it quickly became apparent he would be unable to continue.
Supported by a member of Forest’s staff, Aina hobbled off down the tunnel and was replaced by Alex Moreno in the 40th minute. After the game, the defender posted footage from inside the dressing room on social media with the captain “job done”. A pair of crutches could be seen next to his seat.
What has been said: “We have to assess. It is always a concern when a player gets injured by himself,” Nuno said.
“He is going to have a scan and we will see how it is. We’re not quite sure what it is, only the scan will say exactly.”
