Done Deal: Nottingham Forest have signing a South American Ballon d’Or winner
Nottingham Forest have looked at signing South American Ballon d’Or winner with decision made
Nottingham Forest have looked at adding Brazilian attacker Luiz Henrique to their ranks during the January transfer window.
It’s no secret that the Reds are looking at signing a striker this month. Another South American has also been linked with Forest in the mix to take Igor Jesus before the window slams shut.
Nottingham Forest are going well in the Premier League so far this season. Tuesday’s draw against Liverpool means the team remain third in the league table and face bottom club Southampton on Sunday.
Nottingham Forest News have now been given some more information on Forest and their attempts to sign a striker during the window with Henrique someone who has been under consideration.
Nottingham Forest showed interest in Luiz Henrique
Graeme Bailey has exclusively told Nottingham Forest News that the Brazilian attacker has been on the shortlist for the Reds – but that moving for him this month feels unlikely.
He told us: “Forest told me they were looking at potential forwards but it’s quality over quantity if the right forward came up.
“I think they looked at Jesus and Henrique in Brazil but I don’t think they were too bothered about them this month, and didn’t think they’d improve too much on what they’ve got now.
Henrique would move this month full of confidence. Last season he made 76 appearances in all competitions, having spent the second half of last season in Europe with Real Betis.
Upon returning to Botafogo he helped them win the Brazilian title for the first time in their history and across his time spent with the two clubs he scored 13 goals and claimed nine assists.
In December, a fine year was crowned when he won the South American Ballon d’Or for his efforts for the champions and winning the prestigious accolade will likely add some value to his transfer fee when the time does come to leave.
Taiwo Awoniyi fancied by West Ham
The club’s need for a striker could intensify in the coming weeks. Awoniyi has been linked with West Ham and talks are ongoing between the two clubs over striking a deal.
It’s interesting that things are starting to heat up in that sense. Forest surely wouldn’t allow Awoniyi to leave without a replacement being sought and leaving a 33-year-old Chris Wood as the solo striker wouldn’t be ideal.
Henrique is perhaps not one for Forest to take a chance at this month. Although, at 24-years-old, he has bags of potential, he operates more as a winger at a time when the Reds really need a proper striker.
